Your Own Measure

Settled with God Even When
Your Faith Feels Small

Coming Spring 2027

Somewhere close by is someone who seems to have all the faith you’re missing.

You set your faith beside theirs, the way nearly everyone does, and yours came up short. Underneath that sits a harder thought you may never have said out loud: that what you prayed for didn’t come because you didn’t believe enough, and that God is a little disappointed in you.

Paul tells a different story in Romans 12:3. God has given each person a measure of faith. He chose it, fitted it to the life He knew you would live, and put it in your hands with your name on it. Sober judgment means seeing that measure honestly, without inflating it and without shrinking it.

Through Abraham’s long wait, a shepherd who took off a king’s armor, two servants who heard the same words from their master, and a dinner where Jesus asked His host whether he could see the woman at His feet, David shows what faith is: taking God at His word with the evidence in full view. He tells about a night in 1998 when a stranger prayed over him and Kim, and he names his own gift plainly so that you never measure yourself against it.

God has only ever looked at you, and at what He put there, and called it enough.

“Faith looks straight at the facts, sees them honestly, and trusts what God says even when it makes no sense.”

From the Introduction

Inside the book

The book begins on a beach, where Peter has just been restored and turns around to ask Jesus about John. From there it looks at what faith is and how God speaks, then turns to your own measure and the weight you were never handed, and ends with the people beside you.

Each chapter closes with The Honest Look, one question or practice to sit with for a few minutes, so you can see what is in your hands and what was never yours to hold.
